Wissahickon Valley Park
Start your exploration of the area at Wissahickon Valley Park, a mere eight-minute drive (or 34-minute walk or 14-minute bike ride) from the heart of Manayunk. This park along both sides of Wissahickon Creek boasts over 50 miles of trails suitable for hiking, biking, and even horseback riding. Apartments Manayunk may be great, but you can’t fish from them! With the correct permit, you can spend your day fly fishing in the creek. With a pair of binoculars, you can birdwatch in the meadow.
The Schuylkill River flows from Tuscarora to the Delaware River in Philadelphia. The river forms the western border of the Manayunk neighborhood, and from there, there are over 30 miles of hiking, biking and water trails to enjoy. In addition, there are heritage towns at various points for stopping, snacking, resting, and learning about the history of the area. Although there are 120 miles of trail, not every section is connected, so you can explore small parts of it close to home for venture farther afield.
Manayunk Bridge Trail
Right in the neighborhood, is the Manayunk Bridge Trail, a restored historic bridge built in 1918 by the Pennsylvania Railroad. Now only open to walkers, runners, and bikers, the trail keeps you high above urban congestion and offers glorious city views. At its end, is an easy connection to the Schuylkill River Trail.
