As gas prices go up, along with them goes how much we spend each month on getting our cars to get us from place to place.  Depending on how much driving you’re doing you may find that you’re spending as much as over $500 a month on gas alone.  This doesn’t even include parking or other services like car washes.

This amount can start to quickly weigh your budget down and start to make you feel like you’re quite literally just burning your money.

If you are ready to stop spending so much on gas and want to find some of the best ways to cut back on its cost, here are some of the most effective ways to save.

Get a Vehicle With Good Mileage

Rather than driving a huge vehicle which has very little miles to each gallon, why not opt for a small car which offers a considerable amount of distance for less gas.  When it comes to saving money on gas it’s no secret that a smaller fuel efficient car will save you a lot.

If you don’t have the funds to go out and buy a new car immediately, consider buying a used vehicle.  This way you will be able to save thousands and still get a great car.  Take a look at some of the offers in your area and you may just find a great deal you can’t refuse.

Carpool

Making an arrangement with your fellow coworkers to take turns driving each other to work can save you a lot of gas.  Since depending on your carpool size you may be left only having to drive once a  week, you can imagine the difference in gas money that you’ be spending.

Not only is it a significant money saver but you will also be saving the earth.  You can’t bet that!

Take Public Transportation

There are a lot of misconceptions about the bus.  Some people refuse to ride it because they believe it tarnishes your social status.  In reality, however, all sorts of people are seen riding the bus, including top-level executives who ride the bus not because they don’t have a car, but because they don’t have to battle with the commute and sit in traffic for hours.

Taking public transportation to work even just once a week can make a huge difference in your financial picture.

Use Points

Many gas stations offer a loyalty program which offers points each time that you pump your gas there.  When you build up enough points you can get cheaper deals on your gas.

Ask if your favorite gas station as a loyalty card or points program.  You may find that you’re missing out on thousands otherwise.
